The Arts: It’s worth it! Miami Springs Elementary
The Miami Springs Elementary Community School PTA showed its
appreciation of the arts last Thursday evening, April 26, with a program
entitled “The Arts: It’s Worth It!” It posed the question: “How Has Art and
Music Touched Your Life?”
“This is the second annual event where artwork by the students is displayed throughout the school,” said Principal Sally Hutchings. “Parents can walk around and take home
a work of art by making a donation.”
The event also featured music in the cafeteria/auditorium by the strings and chorus. All
grades – first through fifth – participated in the event and also recognized
Earth Day in much of the sculptures and artwork, using pastels and pencils.
“My teachers did an excellent job,” said Hutchings. Art teacher Ramon Magarino,
Tinder Burris and Jorge Calderon with the strings and chorus director Jetzabel
Suero, who also teaches strings. They were amazing”
Hutchings added: “It’s all about highlighting the arts and showing how important they are
in the school system.”

Show Me Your Ink!
During the Springs River Festival on Sunday, April 15, 2012, I began a new photo esssay entitled: “Show Me Your Ink.” I always asked permission and I would like to thank all the nice people who were proud to display their skin illustrations. The next time you see me with a camera, “Show Me Your Ink!”
